What Roof Rejuv Actually Does
Asphalt shingles fail for one main reason: they dry out. Over years of sun, heat, and freeze-thaw cycles, the petroleum-based oils that keep shingles flexible evaporate. The shingle gets brittle, granules let go, and cracks start to form. Rejuvenation puts those essential oils back.
The treatment is a soy-based, biodegradable solution sprayed onto the entire roof surface. It penetrates the shingle, re-saturates the asphalt, and restores flexibility — which independent testing has shown can be improved well beyond a brand-new shingle. The result is a roof that sheds water and resists granule loss the way it did years ago.
It is not a coating, a sealer, or a paint job. There is no film on top to peel or wear away. The shingles you already own simply work like they're supposed to again.
Restore Instead of Replace — When It Makes Sense
Rejuvenation is the right call for roofs that are aging but not yet failing. A single application is designed to extend shingle life by roughly five years, and the treatment can typically be reapplied to keep adding life on top of that.
Good candidates usually share a few traits:
- Shingles that are 6 or more years old and starting to look dry or lose granules
- No widespread cracking, curling, or large bare patches yet
- Decking and underlayment still in sound condition
- Homeowners who want to defer a five-figure replacement without neglecting the roof
If your roof is already leaking, missing large sections, or past its structural life, rejuvenation isn't the answer — and we'll tell you that honestly. In those cases we'll walk you through a full re-roof instead. The whole point of a free estimate is to find out which path actually saves you money.
Why It Matters in the Inland Northwest Climate
Few regions are harder on asphalt than ours. Spokane and North Idaho roofs take hot, dry summers that bake the oils out of shingles, then heavy winter snow load and relentless freeze-thaw cycles that flex and crack anything that's gone brittle. By the time a roof hits its first decade here, dry-out is often well underway even when the roof still looks fine from the street.
That's exactly the window where rejuvenation pays off. Restoring flexibility before the cold arrives means shingles can move with the freeze-thaw instead of cracking under it, and they hold their granules through wind and hail season. Treating a roof on the front side of brittleness is far cheaper than replacing one that cracked apart over a hard winter.
DG Contracting's Process
We don't spray first and inspect later. Every Roof Rejuv job starts with a real evaluation so the treatment goes on roofs that will actually benefit.
- Inspection & assessment: We examine shingle condition, granule loss, flashing, and decking to confirm rejuvenation is the right move — and check for any small repairs to handle first.
- Prep & minor repairs: Loose or damaged shingles, flashing issues, and debris are addressed so the surface is sound before treatment.
- Application: The soy-based solution is applied evenly across the full roof, where it absorbs into the shingles and restores flexibility.
- Walkthrough: We review the work with you and map out when a future reapplication would keep your roof in its longest, healthiest life.
It's a quick, low-disruption visit compared to a tear-off — no dumpster in the driveway, no days of pounding, no displaced family.
